Lorena is a young paediatric surgeon from Madrid who stayed with us in the summer of 2009. The latest in a steady stream of young doctors passing through the Canadiana, Lorena was drawn across the Atlantic by the chance to complete part of her residency at a place she liked to call the Disneyland of hospitals.
Toronto’s ‘sick kids’ hospital is a world renowned paediatric facility. One look at the inside of the place and you’ll see that Lorena’s description is right on the button, it really does feel more like a theme park than a hospital.
Undergoing surgery can be a nerve racking experience, especially for a child. Those of us who have experienced this know that meeting your surgeon beforehand can be reasuring and it’s hard to imagine anyone with a more comforting demeanor than Doctor Lorena.
