Nicolai is a young, personable man from Germany. He was in Canada on a working/holiday visa and was employed right here at the hostel.
It is a cliche that “Germans are severe and have no sense of humor”. It really isn’t true. Especially with Nick. He was always ready to laugh and usually had a ready smile.
He hit it off with Sarah (a.k.a. “The Sweet One”) a Toronto girl and full time hostel employee. Off work the pair were inseparable.
All good things must come to a (temporary) end. Nick has returned to Germany to prepare for Uni in Switzerland.
Sarah has tentative plans to return to France where she used to live and work in order to be closer to Nick. She reckons she can live within easy commuting distance for both of them because a working visa to Switzerland is not likely to be granted.
So we’ve lost Nick but it seems that we just might lose sweet Sarah as well. (Oh, to be young and in love!)
