Who stays in hostels these days? The answer is easy; all sorts of people pass this way .
In addition to backpackers on holiday in constant party mode, there are professionals and tradesmen on business or seeking work.
We actually get a lot of professionals: Architects; Engineers; Pharmacists; Lab Technicians; Nurses; IT specialists; we even get our share of lawyers (because no place is perfect)!
Dr. Jim Cockey, a specialist in Internal Medicine, is here from Maryland U.S.A. to attend the annual meeting of the American College of Physicians.
And no, he didn’t get lost on the way to the conference. The association decided – for the first time – to hold their meeting out of the United States.
Toronto is a pretty good choice for a place to hold a convention. There are plenty of purpose-built conference venues and the largest one is only three blocks from our hostel’s doors!
We get a lot of physicians who stay at our Backpackers Inn. So many, in fact, that we have lost track of the precise number.
About four of our past physician/guests have their pictures on our wall of “Notable Guests”. And that is only a tiny fraction of the medical professionals we have hosted here in the past.
