Where is Canadiana Backpackers Inn Youth Hostel located?
The Hostel is located right in the center of downtown Toronto (3 blocks from the CN Tower), in the heart of the Entertainment district, just minutes from all the sites.

Is there a curfew?
No. Upon check-in, each guest is given a key to their room, as well as the hostel front door (which is locked at midnight). You can come and go as you please!

What is included in the price?
The price includes your stay in dormitory or private rooms, free breakfast and coffee in the morning, tea all day, as well as use of our facilities. Each bed is equipped with a blanket and pillow. Linens and towels are provided for a deposit (which is returned when you check-out from the hostel).

When are check-in and check-out times?
You can check-in to the hostel at any time, though rooms are not available until 2pm. We do have lockers where you can store your belongings until your room is ready. Check-out time is before 11am on the day you are due to leave.

What attractions are nearby?
As we are located in the center of downtown Toronto, we are minutes away from all the major tourist attractions – 3 minutes from Queen Street (a popular, funky, “hang-out” with endless pubs, restaurants, and shops), 5 minutes from the CN tower, Rogers Centre, and the Theatre District, and 10 minutes from Chinatown and Kensington Market. While you’re here, check out our seasonal walking tour with Tour Guys to get the whole Toronto picture!

What is the difference between dormitory/shared style accommodation and private rooms?
At the Canadiana, we have shared/dormitory style rooms with 4, 6, or 8 beds, which you share with other people. The dorms are available as female-only, male-only, or mixed rooms. We also have single and double private rooms available - the single room accommodates one person, and the double room accommodates a maximum of two people. Our standard double rooms share a washroom with other rooms in the area, and our double ensuite rooms have a private washroom inside. All of our dorm rooms have shared washrooms.

What type of payment do you accept?
We accept cash (Canadian & American), VISA, Mastercard, and Canadian or American travellers’ cheques.

What is your cancellation policy?
We require 24 hours notice of a cancellation, or you will be charged for the first night’s stay, on a credit card. (We can not confirm any bookings without credit card details).

How much does it cost to get to the hostel?

It depends on how you get here and from where. A taxi from the bus station or union station will cost you around $10 (with the meter on), this will take around 5 minutes.

From the Airport a taxi will cost around $60 and take between 25-45 minutes (depending on time of day, traffic etc...). Check out our directions page for more details.

Is there Internet access in the hostel?
Yes, we offer free wireless internet throughout the building (in the common areas, and all rooms). If you do not have a wireless device, we have several Internet terminals available in the main lobby of the hostel which you are welcome to use whenever you like. If you need to print, you can do so from these internet terminals for $0.25/page. When you check in, we give you prepaid voucher for the terminals so that your first 60 minutes online are free! After this runs out, the cost is $1 for 20 minutes.

Do you have wi-fi?
Yes we do! We have free wireless internet through the building, in our common areas and bedrooms.

Is breakfast included?
Yes, We serve a free pancake breakfast Monday-Thursday and Bagels Friday-Sunday at 7:30am (first come first served in the hostel lounge room).

Do you have hairdryers/irons/Alarm clocks?
Yes, these are all available from the hostel reception for a small deposit.

What are the bathrooms like?
We have lots of bathrooms located all around the hostel, they are the normal house style of bathrooms, not the mall style ones (e.g. 1 person to a bathroom). All our washrooms are cleaned several times a day.

Are guests allowed in the hostel?
Yes, we allow visitors in the hostel up until 10 p.m., provided they bring along some photographic ID and sign in at reception.

Am I allowed to smoke?

Are pets allowed?
No, sorry, we don't allow pets in the hostel.

Do you have lockers?
Yes, we have plenty of lockers of various sizes available here at the hostel, which can hold anything from small items right up to large backpacks. Every shared room (dorm or quad) has a locker for each person staying in the room. If you require storage before you check in, or after you check out, we have a large locker room in our basement which you are welcome to use free of charge. You are welcome to provide your own padlock for these lockers, or you may buy one at the front desk for $4. We also have additional large lockers that are available for a $10 deposit at the reception desk (refunded when you finish using the locker). We also have food lockers available in the kitchen area ($10 refundable deposit).

Will you charge my credit card straight away?
No. Your credit card number is used ONLY to guarantee your reservation. You will be charged for the first night if you do not show up for your reservation. So if you need to cancel, please give us 24 hours notice by phone, e-mail or in person and you will not be charged.

Is there any parking?
The hostel does have a few parking spaces but they are only available on a first come first served basis ($20). If these are already taken there are many other parking lots in the surrounding area which cost between $15-20 per day.
